Dharmasthala rural development project a role model: MLA UT Khader

Mangalore :  Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) is not only a boon for its beneficiaries but also a model for the entire state, said UT Khader, MLA, Mangalore north constituency.

He was speaking as a chief guest at a programme of installation of new Pragathi Bandhu Kendra Samithi and profit distribution to 4000 Self Help Groups under SKDRDP held at Town Hall, here on Saturday, July 31.

Mr Khader said that SKDRDP which was founded in the year 1982, on the occasion of the installation of 39 feet monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali in Dharmasthala, by Dr. Veerendra Heggade, has succeeded to reach the last person living in the lowest rung of the society because of the commitment and dedication of its office-bearers.

He went on to claim that Heggade can become a practical model for the governments through his development programmes. 

Hemavathi V Heggade, said that individuals can gain more profit if they work with team spirit under SKDRDP. She appreciated the dedication and commitment of the office-bearers of Pragathi Bandhu, insisting all credit must go to them.

As many as 55,000 members of 4,000 SHGs shared the profit of about Rs. 1.56 crore apart from the initial benefits.

Mangalore MLA Yogish Bhat and Mr Khader formally distributed profits cheques to the members of the SHGs.

Mr Heggade, in his presidential address said that people can create an economic revolution through SHGs.

Shivaraya Prabhu read the biannual report. Rajani Dugganna, Mayor, Rajendra Kumar, Dy Mayor, LH Manjunath, Shankar Shetty, Sukhalatha Shetty, Achyutha Acharya among others were present.
