22 children hurt as tree falls on school premises at Manipura

Udupi , Friday, July 30, 2010 : As many as 22 students of Government Higher Primary School, Manipura were injured as a tree rolled down following incessant rains inside a school campus, on Thursday.

The injured have been identified as Nofal, Ruksana, Sujad, Samrin, Shahida, Haseena, Shakhina, Suhan, Jeevan, Shafan, Shayina, Sooraj, Sachin, Irfaan, Sameera, Ashfan, Harshad, Pavithra, Ashika, Afiya, Sana and Samay.

At the time of the incident 25 students of sixth standard were writing exams inside the Gaduvadu Dhoomavathi Mantapa, on the school campus. Three students have been admitted to the government hospital, Udupi. Officials have estimated a loss to the tune of Rs 60,000.

Tiles of Bada Yermal Government PU College were also flown away on Wednesday night, causing damage of Rs 75,000.
