Stunning display of spanking new imported cars in city

Report By: Nina Rai, Pic's by: Prajwal Ukkuda

Mangalore :  A mind-boggling display of assorted gleaming imported vehicles was organized in the city for the first time ever, at the Nehru grounds on Sunday, Feb. 2010, which kick-started around 4 pm and concluded close to 9 pm. It was indeed a feast for the eyes of auto-enthusiasts. On display at the exhibition were a variety of vehicles from major car makers like BMW, Mercedes Benz, Range Rover, Land Rover, Lexus and the huge Hummer H2. In the super-bikes category there were two Yamaha R1s, a Suzuki GSX 1000R and a Honda CBR 1000.

It was indeed a sight to behold for the gawking visitors, and auto enthusiasts with about nineteen imported luxury cars and SUV''s on display. The event was skillfully managed by the Vodafone company who had given it wide-spread publicity. The even was a joint collaboration between Mercedes Benz and Kingfisher airlines. Also on display were four super-bikes from the stable of leading Japanese companies., which was indeed a treat for eyes for the bike enthusiasts.

The event was indeed a great success for organizers as a large Sunday crowd of around three and half thousand kept pouring in to the venue right from 4 pm onwards. Everywhere one could see visitors checking out the vehicles asking after its rates and garnering other information pertaining to its type, speed, fuel efficiency, seating arrangements, maintenance, mileage and so on. The salespersons did oblige them with requisite information as also giving live demos in few cases.

According to B. K. Sudhir, the Co-ordinator of the auto-exhibition, the main objective behind organizing this show was to quench people''s curiosity about foreign vehicles and satisfy their desire to view assorted foreign vehicles, an opportunity which no auto-enthusiast would be willing to miss. Further according to him many two and four wheeler lovers are also enthusiastic about gleaning information on the latest version of super-bikes and modern luxury cars. Keeping all this in mind, the exhibition has been duly hosted, he informs.

According to the organizers as per their original plan, a total of twenty-one imported vehicles were to be put up on display. Unfortunately, two Hummers did not turn up due to technical glitches at the last moment. However, the other vehicles did make up for the lack of the said two super vehicles. For the city persons it was a truly a day of excitement as it was one of its kind event, in-fact the first in the city. The organizers are now looking forward to the same kind of enthusiasm and support from the local populace and imported vehicle''s owners.

The auto-exhibition went on till late evening, with people pouring in till the very end. Cultural shows were organized as part of the exhibition to entertain the enthusiastic crowds. There were a series of dance performances with sizzling dance numbers against techno beats, by seasoned artistes. Also there were stage performances by tiny-tots looked on indulgently and cheerfully bolstered by the crowds. The auto-exhibition culminated with the organizers thanking the localities and the vehicle owners for making the exhibition a great success.
