‘Roce ''N'' Brass’ is an unique and one of its kind album produced by Claud which has a collection of pre-wedding Christian tradition, ''Roce'' needs.
Speaking to Team Mangaloremithr about the specialty of ‘Roce ''N'' Brass’ he informed, “People staying abroad and those away from India always , are in need of a good collection of our traditional songs which are used in Roce functions. Now days people prefer the traditional way of Roce, he added.
Many times people requested me to produce something which is traditional in Roce, this inspired me a lot and Roce N Brass is the result of this. The Konkani traditional songs are suitable for playing during the entire Roce ceremony and non-stop Baila etc, he said, explaining the specialty of the album.
The album also includes non-stop Goan and Mangalorean Baila by Goa''s ace singer Antony Sam, ''Vovio-Verse'', and ''Lavdathe'' with a number of selections.
St Rita''s Band, Cascia, has provided the complete brass band music for the album. About Claud
‘Konkan Kalashree’ and Sandesha award winner Claud D''Souza is a well known name for Konakni music lovers. He was born on 10th November 1956 at Bendoor. He is the son of late Lawerence D’Souza and Lilly D’Souza. He is married to Marie D’Souza and has 2 children – Moushmi and Melissa.
Musical journey
Claud started his singing career as a child. His Uncle Nicholas D’Souza was his early inspiration. He would sing with his father at wedding parties and during Christmas times. Later Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus became a great source of inspiration for his career. Edrol Bendoor was his musical guru. CAL Bendoor helped him a lot to explore and further his talents.
He produced his first musical album in the year 1983. ‘Mai’ was the first song of Claud, which he wrote in the year 1977. He has been a consistent performer in the Konkani music world and has been traveling around the Gulf region for musical shows. His shows have been staged at Canada, Mumbai, Mangalore, Goa, and many other places.
He was a singer at the 75th Wilfy Nite and part of team, after which he became a regular singer for almost Wilfy Nite events till date. So far he has produced 15 musical albums (including latest 2)
As of date he has presented 46 musical ‘nite’ shows for Konkani music fans and has written more than 600 songs. He was the one who introduced BAILA to Konkani Music World. His first baila album was ‘Mangalore Masala’, which was produced in 1984.
He proudly admits that he earns his bread from Music and is proud to admit the fact. His ‘Cosmic Rays’ Beat group has been successfully running for over 30 years, which probably is the first beat group which has a 30 years history in Mangalore. Claud is not only an outstanding singer but also an accomplished player of musical instruments like the drums.
He is a good writer too. So far he has written more than 30 stage plays. His ‘Siluche Filu’ is an all time favorite Konkani Comedy play. ‘Mirsangcho Duvhor’ was his famous serious play where as ‘Bapa Thanka Bhogsi’ is one of his religious play which got the highest audience appreciation.Singing in Wilfy’s troupe was the happiest moment of his life, says Claud, because he felt it was a great honour to receive an invitation from the legendary singer.
Though Claud is happy with his musical career, the recent MP3 culture is hurting him a lot. "The MP3 culture has ruined all the hard efforts and talents of musicians. We are putting in our full efforts, but a third person is coming and eating the fruits of it, Claud rues sadly.
‘Bapoipona’ is his top favorite song, which he has included in his new album. Claud D’souza is indeed a multi -talented gift of God to Konkani community. He has won several honours and awards of which ‘Sandesha Award’ and Karnataka Sahitya Academy are most noteworthy. He is a good compeer too.
Mangaloremithr salutes his multi talents and musical genius and wishes him all success in his future endeavors.
