Transglobal launches prepaid card for NRIs
Transglobal Beneficial, a US based company formed by a group of medical professionals, on Wednesday, Nov 26 launched a prepaid, reloadable card designed to streamline remittances by non-residential Indians (NRI) towards healthcare services for the beneficiaries in India.

About Indian Health Card
The India Health Card (IHC) is available for purchase online and involves a nominal registration fee for Individual and family membership.

The card functions like a debit card and facilitates the member to access quality health care at a discounted rate from a wide network of health service providers across India.

So far the company has signed-up 2,000 health care providers.

Transglobal Beneficial president Dr Ravi Halekote said, "The card allows NRIs to monitor the funds that are sent home for healthcare purposes." According to a World Bank Report, only 5 per cent of $29 Billion NRI remittances are channeled towards healthcare costs for often the money sent goes redirected for unintended purposes.

"Through the IHC, healthcare providers would be able to receive payment within 24 to 36 hours. It also offers an alternative to expensive process of money transfer associated with NRI accounts," said Transglobal Beneficial Vice-President Dr Dennis Young blood. The company''s revenues will come from membership and transaction fees.

Mangalorean connection
Dr Ravi came up with the idea of launching IHC as a result of years of close observation of health issues and health sector in India and changes that have taken place in recent times. Ravi grew up and was educated in Mangalore, thus spending considerable time in Mangalore. As the card is especially aimed at NRI population, this comes as a good news for the relatives, particularly the aged parents and friends of NRIs from Mangalore region as well.
